Embracing Vulnerability – Mindful mantras and breath-work to allow true love to flow

These beautiful mantras from Thich Nhat Hanh can be practiced with anyone you are in a loving relationship with – partner, children or friends. The key to making them as powerful as possible is to bring your complete loving attention, awareness and presence. Really SEE the person and stand there as if there is nothing else but you and them. Begin by using long, deep mindful breaths.

1.“Darling, I am here for you.” Look into their eyes and say this with your full attention. When you love someone the best thing you can offer them him or her is you’re your true presence.

2.“Darling, I know you are there and I am truly happy because I know you are there.” You recognise the presence of your loved one as something very precious. Embrace your partner with your mindfulness.

3.“Darling, I know you suffer, that is why I am here for you.” Acknowledge your partners suffering, their pain and your presence alone can bring immediate relief.

4. “Darling, I suffer. I’m trying my best to practice. Please help me”. This is one of the most difficult to master when you are suffering and you believe that your suffering is caused by your love one and you feel you want to punish them. If you can bring yourself to share the moment and say this to your loved one, you will immediately feel an opening.

Acknowledgement of our own vulnerability can be an incredibly powerful and liberating experience. It doesn’t have to be complex and we often over-complicate things because somehow we feel they should be complicated. Try to be present for those you love, but as much for yourself too. You also are in a loving relationship with the many layers of ourselves from the physical to the emotional and spiritual bodies. Try to communicate with them all! And remember it all starts with the breath! We look to move from the unconscious to the conscious, from the automatic to the mindful, so that we can begin to lead a conscious existence. So that we can be proud when we look back on this – because we know that every decision we made was conscious.
